Before

After the first mission in 2014 it was clear the work would continue. For many people in eastern Mindoro an operation is a question of money, not of medicine.

The mission

From 27 February 2015, 14 volunteers worked at Roxas District Hospital together with German Doctors. 97 patients were operated on. Thyroid and hernia surgery formed the core of the work, alongside smaller procedures.

Beyond the operating room, the team sorted medication and supplies, repaired equipment, and took care of follow-up.

The midwife on the team

The team included midwife Astrid Kany, in 2015 the only midwife on the mission.

The missions, she said, were not only enormously demanding but at times very dangerous. — Astrid Kany

After

The need was so great that the project continued. For Astrid Kany the work on Mindoro was also preparation for Malawi, where she spent four weeks in obstetrics in 2017.

The next step

The next mission starts with you.

A donation, a membership, or your time: every contribution becomes surgery, safe anesthesia, and training on the ground.
