More than 140 free surgeries for people who otherwise could not afford treatment.
Before
On Siquijor, many fishers and day laborers could not afford necessary surgery. The idea for the mission came from Dr Dennis Borces, whose family is from the island: to help with medical expertise where care is missing.
The mission
In October 2012, a volunteer team of doctors, nurses, and paramedics worked at Siquijor Provincial Hospital for the first time. More than 140 operations were free for patients. At the same time, the team set up an ambulance service modelled on the German system.
It was made possible by volunteers and donations alone.
After
That first mission grew into a lasting partnership with the island — and, in 2015, Surgical Mission Saarland e.V.

The next step
The next mission starts with you.
A donation, a membership, or your time: every contribution becomes surgery, safe anesthesia, and training on the ground.
