More than 120 operations instead of the 35 planned. Three weeks, around 45,000 euros. The year of Typhoon Haiyan.
Before
35 operations were planned on Siquijor for November 2013. It turned out differently. On 8 November, Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines, one of the strongest storms ever recorded.
The mission
Part of the team first provided emergency relief in Tanauan on Leyte. The team then travelled on to Siquijor and resumed the mission. In three weeks, more than 120 operations were carried out — over three times the number planned, because that was the need.
The mission cost around 45,000 euros for supplies, medication, and organization, funded by donations. The team also brought equipment that had been decommissioned in Germany — real support for a hospital that serves 91,000 people.
After
2013 showed what a well-practised team can do when circumstances overtake the plan. The organization returned to Siquijor in 2014.
