Ukraine — support on three levels

The situation

Since February 2022, health facilities across Ukraine have repeatedly been attacked, damaged, or destroyed. At the same time, demand has risen for medication, dressings, instruments, and protective equipment.

The support

Support operates on three levels. In Saarland, the organization helps refugees with housing, initial supplies, referrals to doctors, and interpreting. Relief transports went to Poland, from where partners carried the goods on into Ukraine, tracked all the way. And to this day the organization supplies hospitals, emergency services, and social institutions in Ukraine.

For the Central City Hospital in Izium, Kharkiv region, the organization arranged medical equipment. Partners handed it over to the emergency department on site — in a building whose façade bears the marks of the bombardment.

Children with type 1 diabetes in Kharkiv

Around 800 children with type 1 diabetes live in Kharkiv, in a health system under heavy strain from the war. Together with Saarland diabetologist Nadine Godel and her colleague Svitlana Chumak from Kharkiv, the organization has so far provided two children with a life-saving insulin pump.
